Normally traction motors are series wound with high overload torque capabilities. However , with latest development in Chopper Controls, separately excited motors are also used for traction in battery powered vehicles. Benn manufactures both types.

Hydraulic powerpack motors are in general short time rated, compact in size and are series or compound wound.
